The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has opposed the normative act through which the government allocated 4 million euros for the smooth running of the concert of American rapper Kanye West, describing this decision as unconstitutional.
Berisha accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of using the government's reserve fund for a private activity, claiming that this fund was created for emergencies and special occasions, not for financing a concert.
"In an unexpected, unconstitutional, absolutely unconstitutional manner, Edi Rama takes from the government reserve fund, the creation of which is based on clear articles of the Constitution of Albania, and this fund that was entrusted to him to use for emergencies, urgencies and very special cases, Edi Rama shares this fund with Kanye West, a well-known singer, solely for his lobbying. This is an unconstitutional crime.
"Under no circumstances and in no case could a private concert be given the country's emergency funds or the Council of Ministers' reserve funds. Only someone who does not ask about the Constitution does this. Only someone who has no interest in the rule of law or national interest. There are only personal interests. With a handful of incriminated ministers, who should never have agreed to become co-authors in this crime," said Berisha.
According to the leader of the Democratic Party, the decision to pay for Kanye West's concert is the wrong message to citizens and protesters.
"I invite citizens to join in a strong protest against the repeated acts of Edi Rama and his government. The payment of 4 million to Kanye West is a terrible disregard for Albanians and those hundreds of thousands of citizens who are protesting against him. This is evidence of how Rama considers Albanian taxes as money for his wallet or accounts. The Albanian government will pay the company 10 million euros for missing tickets that will be divided between Edi Rama and his family," said Berisha.
