Democrat Ervin Salianji has called for a deep reformation of the opposition and the construction of a real strategy to confront the Rama government.
Invited to the "Real Story" show, Salianji emphasized that it is time for a functional opposition, which should not rely solely on Sali Berisha's votes.
Speaking about the current situation in the Democratic Party, Salianji admitted that the DP is not going through a good moment, but stressed that its improvement is in the interest of citizens.
" We need to form an opposition on how to defeat Edi Rama, without Sali Berisha's votes to speak bluntly or not. We need to find all the right mechanisms to give direction to this situation. We need to find mechanisms as a society, so that there is a healthy democracy and there are institutions and a government that is controlled and a healthy opposition that exercises full control. The DP is not in its best days today, because otherwise we would not be having this discussion. By improving the DP, we serve the public interest ," he said.
Asked if he is aiming for a concrete political function, Salianji explained that he currently has no ambitions for positions, but is focused on building a new and inclusive movement within the opposition. Salianji emphasized that it is time to unite opposition contributions and actors, to build a clear front against the government.
" If I had ambitions for a position now, I would have come out, I would have a movement, and then I would have come here. I do politics in the form of starting a movement and then I come and discuss why I am doing this movement. At this moment, I am discussing and meeting other democrats, who have the same, maybe I did not take the cost and made a sacrifice and have been in prison, because it was a prison not for my personal interest, but for the cause of the opposition. I am not at that stage, that I want to have a position. I am at the stage, that the DP must include everyone, even other parts of the opposition mosaic to find the right mechanisms for us to win and in this sense I cannot speak today in advance, while tomorrow there is a decision-making process for the opposition action in the party structures. The opposition does not have the luxury of making such blunders as leaving a bunch of mandates on Rama's table. I will be in political life without discussion, contributing as an opposition member all the time ", he said.
