The American Embassy in Tirana will be without an ambassador for a few more months. The US Senate has rejected the name of David Kostelancik, who was proposed by President Joe Biden.
In the spring he appeared before the Senate where he presented his plans, but approval was delayed for more than 9 months. Today, the Senate put it on the agenda, but the candidacy was rejected.
The Senate has asked the US President, Joe Biden, to approve a new candidate for the post of US ambassador to our country.

David Kostelancik appeared before the Senate in March and his approval seemed certain. But Republicans blocked all new appointments, including ambassadors. This blockade continued until now and in the end it seems that his candidacy was rejected by a majority of votes.
Kostelancik is a diplomat of the Senior Foreign Service of the United States of America, Minister Counselor rank. He began serving as a foreign policy advisor to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Mark Milley, in August 2021. Kostelancik previously served as Deputy Chief of Mission, and for two years, as Chargé d'Affaires at the Embassy of the US in Budapest, Hungary, where he provided leadership and policy guidance to the mission's staff of more than 350 people.
Among other things, Kostelancik was appointed in the US State Department as Director of the Office for South-Central European Affairs. He has served as Director of the Office of Russian Affairs, in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. The diplomat was also the Director of the Office of Europe and Asia at the International Bureau of Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs.
Earlier in his career, he served twice at the US Embassy in Moscow. Other assignments in which Kostelancik has been involved are the US Mission to the OSCE and the US Mission to NATO, focusing on security cooperation with Russia, the US Embassy in Albania and the US Embassy in Turkey.
He also served on the National Security Council, focusing on US relations with Central European countries.
Kostelancik holds a BA from Northwestern University in Mathematics and Political Science, as well as an MA from the University of Michigan in Russian and Eastern European Studies. He has also completed a Master of Science from the National War College in national security policy. / Pamphlet
