Citizens rightly expect Parliament to be a forum where different political ideas are discussed in a constructive and respectful manner
The internationals have sent a strong message to politics, on the eve of the start of the new parliamentary session. At 17:00, the first session of this year will be held, where it seems that tensions and clashes will continue.
German Ambassador Karl Bergner has called on the parties for calm and consensus. According to him, more respect is needed in the Assembly.
" Today the Assembly will hold the first session of this year. I have great respect for the role of the parliament as an indispensable institution in a democracy and also for those deputies who work hard to win the majority for their proposals in the committees and in the plenary session in the Assembly. Citizens rightly expect Parliament to be a forum where different political ideas are discussed in a constructive and respectful manner. I believe that the Parliament lives up to this responsibility ," he said.
The message goes both to the majority led by Edi Rama and to Berisha's opposition. Rama does not take a single step back for consensus, while Berisha has instructed his people to continue the tensions.
Earlier it was the new EU ambassador in Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, who appealed on Monday for cooperation between political forces and normal functioning of the parliament for integration reforms. The statement was made during a meeting with Minister Elisa Spiropali.
" As I told Minister Elisa Spiropali during our first meeting [last Friday], the implementation of these reforms will require an effectively functioning parliament... and genuine cooperation between all institutions ," Gonzato writes on the 'X' platform. .
According to him, after the screening process, the country now has a clear picture of the reforms it must carry out for integration. But, Gonzato emphasizes that, "all political forces must work together for the agenda of the country's integration into the EU".
