Evi Kokalari has publicly declared that she is the only person who can challenge Sali Berisha for the leadership of the Democratic Party, emphasizing her role in his return to the helm of this political force.
In a direct connection with the "Terminal" studio on A2CNN, Kokalari said that without her support, Berisha would not have managed to regain control of the party. " The person who can challenge Sali Berisha is me. All those in the DP know very well: Sali Berisha would never have taken the DP if I had not come out on his side. Not only do I have the strength of the debate, but I enabled the return of the Democratic Party from Lulzim Basha to Berisha, who had no chance at that time ," she declared.
Kokalari further added that her relationship with Berisha has deteriorated since 2022, when, according to her, she has evidenced manipulations in the party's internal processes. She claims that the Democratic Party has been "held hostage" through the manipulation of votes in the National Council and in the election of leadership structures. According to her, efforts to oppose this situation initially began privately and then became public.
However, recent developments show a different reality within the Democratic Party. Sali Berisha is expected to run unopposed for the position of chairman, after the Commission for the Organization and Control of Electoral Operations (KOKOE) rejected all alternative candidacies.
In its decision, KOKOE rejected the applications of Mereme Sela and Vladimir Mulaj, while also rejecting the applications submitted by other figures, including Evi Kokalari, Ervin Salianji and Alesia Balliu. The reason given is related to the failure to meet the statutory requirements, specifically the fact that the applications were not submitted by members of the Democratic Party, as required by the internal rules.
In this way, the race for the leader of the Democratic Party appears to have closed without real competition, paving the way for Berisha for a new mandate at the helm of the largest opposition force in the country.
