Ilir Meta, the former President of the Republic of Albania and the current chairman of the Freedom Party, has been arrested on the basis of an arrest warrant from the Special Court, at the request of the Special Prosecutor's Office Against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK).
The arrest was executed by the State Police and agents of the National Bureau of Investigation near the entrance to the capital, on the Durrës-Tirana axis.
Former President Ilir Meta was in Kosovo before he was arrested by SPAK this Monday.
As soon as the BKH agents received the signal that he entered Albania, they started the operation to capture him. When he got close to Tirana, he was stopped in the area of Kthesa e Kamza.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi.
While his ex-wife has been notified of the obligation to appear. This is due to the fact that Monika Kryemadhi is still an MP.
This choice of SPAK was made in order not to expose the operation, since the authorization of the Assembly is not necessary for the mandatory submission measure.
According to the same sources, BKH agents went to Gjirin e Lalëzi for the control of the apartment of Meta and Kryemadhi there, but not only.
