A large-scale operation by the Spanish National Police has led to the dismantling of a criminal organization that, according to the authorities, was engaged in the cultivation of marijuana indoors in several areas of the Valencian Community.
As a result of the operation, 14 people were arrested, while the police seized about 3,000 marijuana plants, 12,000 seedlings, 30 kilograms of buds ready for distribution, 87,800 euros in cash, 11 grams of cocaine, two air guns, vehicles and equipment used for drug cultivation. Three of the arrested were remanded in custody.
According to the National Police, investigations began in January, after several Albanian citizens were identified as transporting equipment intended for the construction of "indoor" plantations in the Xirivella area.
"The investigation began in January, after several Albanian citizens were discovered transporting equipment for indoor installations in Xirivella ," the National Police said in a statement.
Spanish authorities state that during the investigations it was discovered that the group used rented vehicles, which they constantly changed, changed the people who looked after the plantations and frequently moved from Murcia to Girona to expand their criminal activity.
According to the police, the leaders of the organization lived in villas in areas with a high standard of living, while the people guarding the plantations lived in difficult conditions near the production centers.
Investigators claim that the Albanian faction had formed an alliance with a group of Spanish citizens with criminal records for drug trafficking.
"The two groups, with a clear division of roles, had created a kind of criminal 'joint venture' - a strategic collaboration to pool resources, technology and capital, with the aim of maximizing profits and sharing risks and costs ," the police statement said.
During the investigations, several premises used for the cultivation and storage of drugs were located, including an industrial warehouse in Benifaió, a warehouse in Llíria, two apartments in Benaguasil and a villa in Alginet.
Police announced that during the weekend of July 4, a drug robbery between rival gangs took place at the Llíria plantation, where it is suspected that firearms were used. 450 marijuana plants weighing about 380 kilograms, as well as 9 mm ammunition casings were found at the scene.
Due to the risk of the suspects fleeing and the escalation of the conflict between rival groups, the authorities decided to intervene immediately, conducting seven simultaneous checks.
According to the National Police, three "indoor" plantations were dismantled during the operation, including a super-plantation with advanced technology, where 2,763 marijuana plants in an advanced stage of cultivation were discovered.
The 14 arrested were brought before the judicial authorities and are accused of drug trafficking, electricity theft and participation in a criminal organization. One of them had a previous court order for the execution of a prison sentence.
