Deputy Ina Zhupa has asked the Minister of Economy and Culture Bledi Gonxhe for clarifications about the protected areas and especially Butrint. She said that the Ministry of Culture does not have the will to implement the recommendations of UNESCo.
In an interview with Minister Gonxhe, she said that the policies followed by the government are causing areas protected by UNESCO to be declared as areas at risk.
"I asked for this interpellation to provide explanations as to why the Albanian government persistently and stubbornly ignores all the recommendations of UNESCO? What interest does the Albanian state have that its property protected by UNESCO is declared in danger, as Ohri is endangered by the works in Drilon-Tushemisht, or Butrint by the concession you have given as the government? Why don't you use all the intellectual and academic capacities of archaeologists, historians, Albanians, you don't ask for anything, but you get foreigners, concessionaires, people without experience, while the UNESCO report itself says that the board of directors had no idea about tourism" , said Ina Zhupa.
Bledi Gonxhja said that some of the things stated by deputy Zhupa are not verified, while he said that the UNESCO report approved in India expresses gratitude for the government's work.
"I am pleased to tell you that some of the things you said have not been verified by UNESCO or official information. As for what you greeted, and it was really to be relied upon in the UNESCO world heritage committee in New Delhi that their decision was confirmed in full, unanimously with a content of about 12 points, of which 9 points are gratitude for the work done by the Albanian state for all the steps they have been waiting to be clarified. This is a complex report that often raises questions and discussions", said Gonxhe.
