Shkruar nga PamfletiPrime Minister Edi Rama arrived in Vlora by helicopter on Thursday afternoon, landing at the city's airfield. He then headed to the Palace of Culture, where a meeting with the residents of Zvërnec is scheduled.
The meeting is expected to start at 6:00 PM and will also be attended by representatives of local government.
The visit comes after tensions were registered last weekend in the Pishe Poros area. Residents, environmentalists and activists opposed the installation of a fence on the beach by a private company. During the clash with security officers, one protester was physically assaulted. Authorities later arrested three people involved in the incident.
The event sparked public reactions and daily protests in Tirana. Citizens and activists have been gathering every afternoon against the planned project to build a resort in Zvërnec. The project has been linked to Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, the daughter of US President Donald Trump.
In a statement made this week during a joint conference with European Council President Antonio Costa, Rama said that there is still no final project for Zvërnec. He stressed that the planned investment is expected to reach a value of 4 billion dollars and that it will take place on private property.
The Prime Minister also stated that he will not support the cancellation of the investment while he is in office. According to him, the opposition to the project is also influenced by external factors that do not support the realization of investments of this scale in Albania.
