The Democratic Party has sued the Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, and the Director of the State Police, Skënder Hitaj, following the April 17 protest held in the capital.
During the protest, as clashes broke out, the police reportedly used tear gas canisters at the protesters, injuring some of them, even MPs.
In addition to Lamallari, the complaint also includes citizens Elton Alushi, Artur Prifti, Altin Tabaku, Bajram Baçi, Navjol Papuli and Dashamir Bendo.
According to the complaint, the officials are accused of acts such as “illegal deprivation of liberty”, “abuse of duty”, “committing arbitrary actions”, “obstructing gatherings” and “forgery of documents”, among others.
This morning, the leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, announced the filing of charges against Police Chief Skënder Hita, Sokol Bizha and 2 other people who led the action against the opposition in the protest of April 17. Berisha said that bear spray was used to disperse the protesters who had taken to the square.
From SPAK, where he appeared in compliance with the mandatory appearance measure, Berisha also commented on the protesters who will appear before the Court today regarding security measures. Although this time they were caught red-handed with Molotov cocktails in their hands, Berisha says that the militants were put in the cell without evidence.
"Criminals in uniform used the most forbidden and illegal means against courageous protesters, undefeated defenders of the social conscience of Albanians in the last protest. They are all without any evidence, no facts, no documents, we will sue all of them for using bear blinders and now it turns out that it is even worse than bear blinders. We will continue even more, the protests will be more powerful. The file, Rama-Balluku is never closed, the file is open, it is a pit for Rama and Lubi Balluku. We will file criminal charges against Skënder Balluku, a notorious criminal, against Sokol Besëprersi, the most treacherous officer," said Berisha.
