Lawyer Kreshnik Spahiu has described the Democratic Party's eighth national protest as one of the smallest gatherings in the history of this political force.
Invited to Report TV, Spahiu stated that participation in the protest was much lower than had been predicted by the opposition, adding that the democrats and citizens "abandoned" Sali Berisha at the most important moment.
" The people and the democrats abandoned Berisha on the day he was most needed and left him with 1,500-2,000 protesters ," he said.
According to Spahiu, the tensions and clashes with the police were provoked by the protest organizers themselves, while he added that the majority also has an interest in Berisha remaining the main figure facing the government.
" It is a first clash provoked and initiated by the organizers themselves for several reasons, but on the other hand it is also supported by the police, which I am sure is that the main actors who have an interest in Berisha being the only factor facing the government are the socialists ," declared Spahiu.
He also mocked the protesters, saying that without the presence of the police, the protest would have no impact.
" I invite all citizens to think for a moment about a boulevard without police, with 2,000 protesters in front. Rest assured, just as they came, like wet chickens, they would leave and would not be able to occupy institutions ," said the lawyer.
Spahiu also raised doubts about a possible political agreement between the Democratic Party and the Socialist Party on constitutional and electoral changes.
" Berisha is facing a major historic PD-SP bargain, to change the Constitution and change the electoral law, to annihilate any new political movement for the next 30-40 years ," he said.
The lawyer also commented on the political goals of Berisha's protests, claiming that they have served to weaken new opposition parties and rivals within the opposition.
" There were two goals of the protest, the first to remove Adriatik Lapaj from the boulevard as an opposition competitor. One could say that he is afraid of Adriatik, in politics Berisha and Rama have a different strategy. Berisha has always been a detractor of these new parties. He rivaled them with protests and then seduced them with agreements until he burned them completely ," said Spahiu.
According to him, the protest also had another political objective.
" The second goal, they overshadowed the party of Agron Shehaj and Arlind Qori. In the perception of the public and opinion, whoever has more people is stronger. Through protests, they eliminated internal protests ," he declared.
