Electoral reform, parties agree on final version; Lapaj and Qori

Political parties have approved the final version of the establishment and functioning of the Electoral Reform Commission.

The Special Commission will consist of 16 members, of which 7 members are representatives of the Socialist Party Parliamentary Group, 7 members are representatives of the Democratic Party Parliamentary Group and 2 members from parties that have won at least two mandates in the parliamentary elections of May 11, 2025. The names of the members of the Commission are determined by decision of the Assembly.

Members of parliament from other parliamentary parties who have the right to make proposals for changes to the Electoral Reform legislation may participate in the meetings of the Commission without the right to vote. The Commission's decision-making will aim for broad consensus on all proposals.

The decisions of the Commission are considered approved by a majority vote of all members, but only when they simultaneously have the consensus of both co-chairs.

The Commission shall exercise its activity for a period of 9 months from the adoption of this decision. If necessary, upon a reasoned request of the two co-chairs, the Assembly shall decide to extend the term of exercise of the Commission's activity by a special decision of the Assembly.
