President Bajram Begaj delivered the opening speech at the fourth edition of the Diaspora Summit, which is taking place in Tirana.
In his speech, the head of state said that Albanianness is not limited to the territory of Albania. According to him, it extends beyond borders and has an impact on a global level.
Begaj emphasized the role that the Albanian diaspora plays abroad and the connection it maintains with the national identity. His message was given at the launch of the activity that brings together representatives of Albanians from different countries.
"Dear compatriots, friends, guests, participants. It is a special pleasure to greet you at this fourth Diaspora Summit. The Diaspora Summit takes place at a key moment, as never before so close to EU membership. The Albanian diaspora is irreplaceable. It must be part of the way we think about the state and the future. Albania and Albanianness do not end where our borders end. It is a heart that beats wherever there is an Albanian. When we talk about the diaspora today, we talk about global influence. Albanians are there, from the top of AI, to international institutions, to the auditoriums of the best universities, to art and sports.
You are the power, you are our best ambassadors, who contribute without orders, but with pride. Today we are at another step, in a new relationship, in a new contract, where the Diaspora is no longer seen as a source of remittances, but as a true development partner. The connection is not only of the heart, but also of the mind. For decades, the diaspora has been an economic army. Thanks to you, many families have been economically supported and have moved forward. We want you to invest your mind and capital here. Now the right to vote is no longer a promise, but a reality. The Arbëresh world is living proof that the Albanian identity survives centuries, but today the challenges are different. Our history has often been a history of departures. On our path towards Europe, the Albanian diaspora is the most trusted voice" , said Begaj, among other things.
