Voice of America "slaps" Rama: He went to an extraordinary conference
Edi Rama

In Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama warned that Kosovo risks, from moment to moment, facing sanctions from the Euro-Atlantic community which, as he declared, "has put his finger on the button that will set in motion the plan against the state he created himself". Meanwhile, sources in Brussels said that the office of the High Representative of the European Union for foreign and security policy, Josep Borrell, has drawn up a package of measures against the government of Kosovo, which include the suspension of activities within the Stabilization and Association Agreement and financial aid. . Likewise, part of the proposed measures is the cancellation of high-level visits, except for those related to the escalation of the situation in the north of Kosovo.

Prime Minister Rama's statements were made during an extraordinary conference on Tuesday evening, where he announced the cancellation of the joint meeting with the government of Kosovo, scheduled for tomorrow in Gjakovë, since according to him "in the conditions of worsening by the hour, relations between Kosovo with the entire Euro-Atlantic community, this meeting cannot be held in the expected format". He said that he proposed to Prime Minister Albin Kurti to meet together, tomorrow, in Gjakova, in the presence of the Foreign and Defense Ministers of both countries, and that he made this request after speaking with the Head of European Diplomacy Borrell.

Prime Minister Rama explained that there was no agreement from Mr. Kurti on changing the format of the meeting between the two governments. "He requested that the meeting be held normally and then separately, to discuss this as well, but this is not possible because it is not a moment to create a false picture of what is actually happening with the reality of Kosovo today," he said. Mr. Rama adding that he hopes that the meeting with Mr. Kurti can take place.

"If we cannot use this time for a common sense among all, I am very afraid that the plan, which is really very difficult for Kosovo, will be put into motion", said Prime Minister Rama, emphasizing once again that in this case, Albania is 100 percent in line with the Euro-Atlantic community.

The Government of Kosovo did not comment on the concerns raised by Prime Minister Rama, but said that the bilateral meetings could be held every other day.

"We are very close to each other as countries. It would not be the first time that we would meet within the day. But, it is the first time that a joint meeting is canceled unilaterally", said in a statement the spokesperson of the government of Kosovo, Progress Kryeziu./VOA
