The US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Jim O'Brien, called the actions of the Kosovo government "uncoordinated and provocative".
Albin Kurti has provoked another conflict with the Americans, after the action to close the Serbian municipalities in the North. After the US embassy in Kosovo, there has been a very harsh reaction from Washington as well.
The US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe, Jim O'Brien, called the actions of the Kosovo government "uncoordinated and provocative".
" The United States is concerned by the ongoing uncoordinated and provocative actions of the Government of Kosovo ", says Mr. O'Brien in a post on the X platform, echoing a previous statement by the American Embassy in Pristina.
" The United States calls on Prime Minister Kurti and his government to consult with the international community and cease uncoordinated actions that negatively impact our partnership. We appreciate the work of those, including EULEX and KFOR, who prevent violence and call for continued restraint by all parties ," O'Brien said.
Earlier on Friday, the American embassy in Pristina said that the operation of the Kosovo authorities to close the parallel Serbian municipalities in the north of the country was not coordinated and the continuation of such actions represents a real deterioration of relations between the two countries.
The United States government reiterates its concern and disappointment with the continued uncoordinated actions of the Kosovo government that continue to have a direct and negative impact on members of the ethnic Serb community and other minority communities in Kosovo," the embassy said.
Authorities closed down the parallel Serbian municipalities in the north on Friday, in a move likely to fuel fresh tensions. The Kosovo Police said that the operation in the four municipalities in the north of the country was carried out to stop the activities in five facilities which have been used as illegal municipalities, and which are contrary to the constitutional legal order.
