Elections in Kosovo, CEC does not certify Serbian List as a subject; British

The Central Election Commission, at today's meeting, certified the 22 political entities that will compete in the early elections.

While the certification of the Serbian List was rejected, another party has remained suspended in this process.

This is about the Social Democratic Initiative, which is awaiting certification, once it completes the list of signatures.

"Among the political entities that have applied is the Social Democratic Initiative - Initiative. According to the announcement from the Office for Registration, Certification and Financial Control of Political Entities, this political entity has fulfilled all other criteria, except for the list of signatures. After completing the list of signatures, the political entity will be subject to certification by the CEC. The political entity has been given a deadline to complete the list of signatures until December 3, 2025, at 12:00", said the director of the CEC Secretariat, Besnik Buzhala.

The non-certification of the Serbian List has also brought the reaction of the British ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, who expressed concern.

Hargreaves said that actions like this threaten Kosovo's reputation as a multiethnic democracy, adding that he hopes the ECAP will overturn this CEC decision.

"I am deeply concerned by the latest attempt by political actors to obstruct the participation of the Serbian List in the electoral process. Such actions threaten to destroy Kosovo's hard-won reputation as a multi-ethnic democracy and damage relations with close partners," the British ambassador wrote.

The CEC did not certify the Serbian List in the February 9 elections. However, the Electoral Complaints and Appeals Panel ordered the CEC to certify the largest Serb party in Kosovo.

Despite LVV's appeal to the Supreme Court, the Serbian List participated in the February 9 elections.
