Almost three years after her split from Gerard Pique, Shakira has admitted that she has yet to fully rebuild herself after her ex-partner's betrayal. During her Latin American tour, the Colombian singer said in an interview that the healing process is long and that she has found solace through music.
" Healing takes years, and I have lifted a huge burden off my shoulders. This is my way of 'licking the wounds', like a healing wolf, and I do this through writing. Some may see it as something positive, others may not, but I am responsible for myself, for my well-being and for my children ," Shakira told N+.
Asked if she still cries, after her famous statement " Women don't cry anymore ," she replied: " Only for necessary reasons ." According to her, women were once taught to hide their pain, but now it's time to be honest with themselves.
Shakira admitted that she transformed pain into creativity:
" You have to transform it, you have to sublimate it. All the anger and pain I felt at one point I turned into creativity and productivity, to be able to rebuild myself ."
She also emphasized the importance of acknowledging true feelings, adding that the public has helped her feel appreciated.
" We are used to hiding our feelings, especially in the age of social media, where everyone tries to be happy. But it is important to also accept vulnerability, because it makes us strong ," the singer concluded.
