Daddy Yankee and his wife, Mireddys Gonzalez, have ended their relationship after almost three decades. Although there was talk of an amicable split, on Saturday the singer's lawyers filed a lawsuit against his wife in the Court of First Instance of San Juan, accusing her of unauthorized transfers from corporate accounts of up to $100 million.
According to the singer's lawyer, Carlos Diaz Olivo, several restraining orders were filed on Saturday against Mireddy and her sister, Ayeicha, for making transfers of $100 million from the corporate bank accounts of El Cartel Records and Los Cangris. The money was transferred without the singer's authorization to the personal accounts of two women:
“I also add that for about a year and a half, in good faith, Mr. Ayala (Daddy Yankee's real name) asked Ms. Gonzalez for access to their companies and their financial status. However, his request was ignored," said the lawyer.
He also pointed out that he was given little information about the finances of his business and this "has prevented him from having knowledge of the management of the corporation, its finances and the commitments that have been made on its behalf and with its brands".
"In view of their previous actions, the careless administrative and economic management of the subjects and specifically the unauthorized withdrawals of large sums of money, which undermine the stability of the subjects and Mr. Ayala's rights, it has been necessary to turned to the courts in search of protection", added the lawyer.
This is why Daddy Yankee decided to go to court to defend his rights "against the people he trusted".
