Danela, the farmer of 'Ferma VIP', shared a very strange and mystical story of her family history, a story that is not unknown to many Albanians, but narrated by generations as an unusual legend: "the child with wings".
According to Danela, a year before she was born, her mother lost a son, her older brother, who was said to have been born with wings. “The Dragon,” as he was called, was a child that the family fanatically protected from the eyes of others. It was said that no one should see his wings, otherwise he would suffer harm – a fear that, in the end, tragically materialized: he lost his life in an accident. Danela took the name precisely from the one who, according to her mother, had appeared to her in a dream to announce that a girl would be born.
This story is not unique. In fact, on social networks, there is often talk about this topic and different stories that people have heard, mainly from their grandparents.
The myth of the dragon in Albanian folklore
In Albanian tradition, the dragon represents the protective force, good, and is often depicted as the sworn opponent of the kuçedra, the representative of evil. In some areas, especially in southern Albania, it is believed that a child born “with a shirt” (with a thin layer of skin or feathers under the armpits) is in fact a born dragon. In these myths, these children have supernatural abilities and can fight dark forces.
There are even expressions rooted in this belief, such as "let their wings wither" – which, if said to a dragon, is believed to bring death.
Father Shtjefën Gjeçovi, the great scholar of Albanian folklore, explains that those born with golden wings under their armpits are the chosen ones, the warriors of good. In national literature, such as in the works of Gjergj Fishta, the dragon is a majestic figure that symbolizes courage, protection, and pure spiritual power.
