In the future, your iPhone may alert you if you may be at risk of vision problems.
Recently, Apple has issued a patent showing that an iPhone can be used to detect nearsightedness.
It shows that the device can monitor the distance between it and the user, to tell them if they need to visit the eye doctor and maybe need glasses.
The innovation can also be used for tests in which the mobile can automatically adjust the font size and other screen settings to ease eye fatigue.
According to world statistics, on average people spend almost 7 hours a day on screens. This trend does not coincide with healthy vision. One of the main concerns is that users tend to hold their phones too close to their face, squint their eyes or have problems with close vision, but also other problems.
Apple devices may use one or more sensors or the camera to collect photo data to distinguish the distance between the mobile phone and the user. This data can be compared to what indicates at what point the user may experience myopia. If the device detects that the user may have eye problems, it notifies him by sending eye health warnings.
The document also highlights how this innovation could use measures to prevent users from holding their devices too close to their faces.
This can be done by gradually enlarging the writing until the distance is within the correct parameters. It can even start vibrating to alert the user to leave the screen. Based on the data, it can send notifications informing users when they need a new prescription.
This could be a step towards eye health, but it is not yet known if the company will implement this patent in the future.
