Starting January 7, tourists will have to pay an entrance fee to enter the Trevi Fountain in Rome. The cost will be two euros. However, residents of the capital will continue to visit the monument for free. Payment can also be made by credit card.

According to Italian media, this move could bring 20 million euros to the city's coffers. The number of visitors has been limited for about a year, with a maximum of 400 people allowed in the area. Starting in January, two lanes will be set up, one for Roman citizens and the other for tourists.

Supported by Alessandro Onorato, Councilor for Tourism, and by the city administration, the decision aims to protect Rome's largest fountain, which in the first six months of this year alone attracted over 5.3 million visitors, more than the Pantheon in all of 2024 (4,086,947 entries). The revenue generated from ticket sales should be used to improve tourist offers and services.
