Indian billionaire heir Anant Ambani will marry his girlfriend Radhika Merchant this month in a lavish ceremony that has been widely billed as the wedding of the year. In March, the couple held a three-day pre-wedding bash attended by around 1,200 high-profile guests, including Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates. The Mumbai wedding is set to take place from July 12 to 14 at the home of Anant's parents Mukesh and Nita Ambani, a 27-storey mansion called Antilia, as well as the family-owned Jio World Convention Centre, a venue spacious with capacity for more than 16,000 people.
Ambani, 29, is the youngest son of Asia's richest man, Mukesh Ambani, who has a fortune of $118 billion. Merchant, 29, is the daughter of pharmaceutical magnate Viren Merchant and works for his company, Encore Healthcare.
At the party in March, the bride wore a golden dress decorated with 20,000 Swarovski crystals, which was worked on by over 70 artisans. As for the wedding dress, the details have remained secret, but what is known is that an entire staff has been engaged to create a unique dress in the world. Guests are asked to dress in traditional Indian clothes.
Sources from the billionaire's family have informed that the preparations for the wedding started 9 months ago and 45 agencies with hundreds of employees are engaged in this project. It is known that famous personalities not only from India but also the world will be part of the wedding. The participation of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Andrea Boccelli, etc. is expected again.
However, behind all this fabulous brilliance, comes criticism. The grand event is seen in stark contrast to the poverty affecting millions of people in the country, highlighting the gap between the rich and the poor. Aware of their privilege, the couple recently performed acts of charity by organizing a mass wedding for 50 couples in the city and giving them jewellery, household items and food for a year.
