One of the three suspects in the blackmail attempt against the family of former Formula 1 World Champion Mikael Shumaker is at large again. The reason for his release is the new state of the investigation, said prosecutor Wolf-Tilman Baumert, as reported by "Frankfuerter Allgemeine Zeitung".
The 30-year-old was released from custody after paying a 10,000 euro bond. The man also had to hand over his passport.
" We only accuse him of aiding and abetting, he is probably not the mastermind of the crime ," Baumert said. Last week, the Wuppertal public prosecutor's office announced that police had arrested a person suspected of being behind the extortion attempt. It is about a 52-year-old man who worked as a security officer in the Shumaker family.
The person in question was arrested on Thursday in Wulfrath near Wuppertal, as the new main suspect. We remind you that the investigators had previously arrested two of the suspected blackmailers, father and son. According to the accusations, they demanded 15 million euros not to publish sensitive data on the Internet and as proof they had sent some materials to Shumaker's family members.
