Real Madrid could have been just a point off arch-rivals Barcelona today with a game in hand but lost 2-1 in Bilbao.
Many are blaming Kylian Mbappé for the defeat after he failed to convert a penalty again, but coach Carlo Ancelotti disagrees.
"I haven't spoken to him. It was a tough, balanced, hard-fought and competitive game. When we equalised, we could have thought we were in control of the game, but small details punished us.
We missed the penalty... I can't judge a player's game just because of a penalty, which sometimes he scores and sometimes he doesn't. Of course, he is sad, disappointed, but we have to continue," said Ancelotti in the press conference after the match.
Asked about Mbappé's form, Ancelotti admitted that the player has not yet reached the level he had at PSG, but asked for patience.
"He has not yet shown the full potential he had when he was playing for PSG. He is not in the best shape, but we have to give him time to adapt. He has scored 10 goals and is working to improve ", he expressed.
As for why Bellingham, who scored the last penalty for the team, did not take over this time, Ancelotti explained that "I think the two of them (Bellingham and Mbappé) spoke to each other and Mbappé took responsibility, but he didn't fulfilled well. This can happen in football."
