France and Germany are planning to submit a joint bid to host the 2038 or 2042 World Cup. Two of the countries with the richest tradition in European football aim to bring FIFA's most prestigious tournament back to the continent, following the 2030 editions in Spain, Portugal and Morocco, as well as the 2034 edition in Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, Paris and Berlin have begun working on a joint project, which gains even more weight due to discussions within FIFA about expanding the World Cup from 48 to 64 national teams. Such a format would require more stadiums, modern infrastructure and high organizational capacities, making co-organization an ideal solution.
France and Germany are considered among the countries most prepared to host an event of this magnitude, thanks to modern stadiums, a developed transportation network, and long experience in organizing international competitions.
France hosted the World Cup in 1938 and 1998, while Germany organized the tournament in 1974 and 2006. Both countries have also hosted several editions of the European Championship, confirming their organizational skills.
If the project is realized, the World Cup would return to the heart of Europe after many years, while the Franco-German candidacy is expected to be one of the strongest for the editions after 2034.
