Days after Serbia's historic 0-1 home defeat to Albania in Leskovac, the Football Federation of Serbia has moved quickly to find a successor to Dragan Stojkovic "Piksi", who resigned immediately after the match.
According to Serbian media, FSS leaders have reached a verbal agreement with Veljko Paunovic, the former coach who led Serbia to the 2015 World Youth Championship title in New Zealand.
The President of the Federation, Dragan Đhajić, and the Secretary General, Branko Radujko, have received Paunović's "YES", and the official announcement is expected in the coming days.
Sources close to the Federation have confirmed to the Kurir newspaper: " As things stand now, Veljko Paunovic is the new coach of Serbia! The chances are 90 percent. There are few things that could ruin the deal ."
Albania's 0-1 victory in Leskovac, thanks to Rei Manaj's goal at the end of the first half, has not only sparked the anger of Serbian fans, but has also caused radical changes on the national team bench.
According to Serbian media, this defeat was considered "one of the most painful in modern history."
