The coach of the Zambia women's team has received complaints from the national team players. British newspaper The Guardian has published evidence linking him to a series of sexual abuses against his players.
Bruce Mwape started managing the group in May 2018 and has since evolved the way the game is played and qualified Zambia for the World Cup for the first time in their history.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) reported in September 2022 that it had referred an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse, " if he wants to sleep with someone, you have to say p o," confessed a player who prefers to remain anonymous. " It is normal for the coach to sleep with the players of our team ", she added.
Another of the consulted sources admitted that the footballers are receiving punitive threats, in case they discover something of what happened.
"The federation turns a blind eye because women have had good results. It's their way to show the public and the Authorities have success and a good image, but behind the scenes it's very ugly ", said one of the consulted sources.
Zambia is one of the four teams that will be part of Group C in this World Cup, where their team is also a part. The Africans will make their debut on July 22 against Japan and it will be their first time playing in a World Cup.
