A little more than three years after the death of Diego Armando Maradona, his first son, Diego Armando Maradona Junior, was invited to the "Verissimo" show. From the history of the legal battle for recognition of paternity to the last moments spent together, the former footballer and coach spoke about himself in a long interview with Silvia Tofani.
" It is a great pain. The feeling of emptiness will never go away. But the affection that the whole world shows for him eases the pain, or at least partially. I try to look at things on the positive side. I fought for a long time with my mother and the whole family for the recognition of paternity and in the end I had the privilege of being near him and having a normal father-son relationship. It was four very beautiful years.
They killed him, the father could have saved himself. They left him to his own devices when he could save himself. I still haven't fully accepted this loss and I don't think I ever will. It was not the right time to see him die like this. I wasn't able to go to Argentina when he was sick.
Shortly before he died, the father had an operation on his head. An operation planned for some time, but nothing serious. After the operation he was doing well, laughing and joking. I made a promise: until the last day of my life I will fight for justice.
It is complicated to say, there is an open investigation and we as children have great faith in Argentine justice. But I'm sure it didn't have to end this way. They killed him, I'm sure. It's not my job to say who did it now. I have an idea, but I'm keeping it to myself. But I'm sure dad could have saved himself. They left him to his fate when something could have been done ", declared Diego Armando Maradona Junior, among others.
