Premier League star Armando Broja was forced to leave the pitch in tears during England's match with Albania.
The Burnley striker has had a career marked by injuries that have made progress at his former club, Chelsea, difficult.
The Albanian footballer, born in Slough, started the World Cup qualifying match against England from the bench.
The 24-year-old striker only entered the field in the 75th minute.
But just 10 minutes later, he suffered what appeared to be a painful leg injury while dribbling.
The player received treatment on the field, before being carried off on a stretcher, in tears.
Broja has a history of knee injuries, including a torn anterior cruciate ligament that ruled him out for most of 2023 while at Chelsea.
This latest blow has clearly had a profound effect on him, and the backlash from his injury history has led some fans to wonder if this is the end of his Premier League career. One fan went to X: “Broja had a lot of potential but I think this is the end for him. Very sad.”
Another added: "Every time Broja gets hurt, I think I feel pain at this point too. The boy is very unlucky."
In the end England won 2-0 to top the group with a perfect record and becoming the first to not concede a single goal.
It was not the first display of emotion from the Albanian star during qualifying matches, as he had caused concern among fans after he was seen bursting into tears following Albania's victory over Andorra on Thursday.
Broja came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, making his senior debut as an 18-year-old against Everton in 2020.
He caught the attention of Premier League fans when he had a successful loan spell with Southampton in the 2021/22 season.
Broja was praised for his quick feet despite his size, being 1.88 m tall.
But an anterior cruciate ligament injury would hamper his progress upon returning to Chelsea, before two fruitless loan spells at Fulham and Everton dampened the enthusiasm surrounding him.
He has missed over 30 games due to injury since the start of last season alone.
Broja left Chelsea permanently in August to join newly promoted Burnley, but has yet to score in his five Premier League appearances from the bench this season./The Sun
