UEFA does not forgive Real Madrid, sanctions against Mbappe, Rydiger and Sebajo

UEFA has decided not to forgive Real Madrid and the Spanish club's players for their behavior in the Madrid derby in the Champions League. The excessive celebrations of Real Madrid players after the victory over Atletico Madrid led to fines and other punishments for some of the team's most famous names.

Antonio Rydiger, Kylian Mbappe and Dani Sebajos were fined 40,000, 30,000 and 20,000 euros respectively. The German defender had put his hand to his neck in a knife-cutting gesture, while Mbappe and Sebajos had made other provocative gestures towards opposing fans. Rydiger and Mbappe were also given a “conditional” one-match suspension, which only comes into effect if unsporting behaviour is repeated within a year of the decision.

Penalties that Real Madrid did not like, who appealed and asked for the players to be declared innocent as they had simply been celebrating. But today the UEFA Appeals Committee confirmed the initial decisions, rejecting the Madrid team's appeal.

Meanwhile, the club has been fined 15,000 euros for racist behavior by its fans in the match against Arsenal in London and has been sentenced to the condition that it will not sell tickets to its fans for the next match as a traveling member in UEFA competitions. A decision that will come into effect if such incidents are repeated by “Los Blancos” supporters within a year.
