The Polish national team did not impress at the PGE National Stadium, but they won their match against Albania 2-1 and will advance to the World Cup play-off final.
Polish media have echoed the victory against the Albanian national team, about which they say that 'veterans like Robert Lewandowski and Piotr Zieliński pulled the drowning team out of the water.'
The Polish newspaper, Rzeczpospolita, writes: “Poland – Albania 2-1. The players brought joy, the fans shame. We will play against Sweden for the World Cup.”
Meanwhile, another Polish media outlet, Sport.wprost, writes about the scandal of local fans booing the Albanian anthem.
"Scandal before the Poland-Albania match. There is no doubt that in an elimination match, the stands will certainly be hot."
But on Thursday evening, the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw was packed, the vast majority of them home fans, but there were also visitors from Albania.
As it turned out, some Polish fans responded to the anthem by booing during the away team's performance. Fortunately, this was a distinct minority among Polish fans. However, the bitter taste certainly remained.
The answer was not long in coming. During the performance of "Mazurek Dąbrowskiego", even the sections filled with Albanian fans performed below the proper level," writes Sport.wprost.

Another media outlet, Interia.pl, also writes: "Shame on the national stadium, let's not go that way."
The Reds were defeated 2-1 by Poland in a upset, in the first play-off match.
Albania ended the first half with the advantage, after a goal scored by Arbër Hoxha in the 42nd minute.
In the 54th minute, Nedim Bajrami missed a golden opportunity, with a penalty on the move, while 9 minutes later the Poles equalized with Lewandowski.
Pilo also had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 74th minute, but he was alone with the goalkeeper and was stopped by the latter. In the next action, Poland scored the advantage and the winning goal with Zielinski.
