Why has the Strait of Hormuz become the epicenter of the clash between the US

The clash between the United States and Iran is entering a new phase, where the battle for influence is centered on control of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important maritime corridors for global oil trade.

This was stated by Mehran Kamrava, a professor of government at Georgetown University in Qatar, who in an interview with "CNN" said that the conflict has turned into a "very determined fight over who controls the Strait of Hormuz."

According to Kamrava, Iran is aware that it cannot militarily rival the United States and Israel, so it is pursuing a different strategy.

"Iran is very aware of the fact that it cannot militarily confront the United States and Israel. Therefore, it is trying to turn the conflict from a military conflict into an economic one," he said.

The professor added that Tehran has, to some extent, achieved this objective by placing the Strait of Hormuz at the center of the strategic conflict.  "Iran is determined to keep the Strait of Hormuz as a source of influence," Kamrava declared.

He stressed that Iran's goal is to establish influence over this maritime corridor, while the United States is trying to limit this ability.

"Iran wants to establish some kind of administrative influence and the Americans are determined to undermine this influence," he said.

The US has also stated that its military operations aim to weaken Iranian capabilities to attack ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies.

Kamrava stressed that the focus of the conflict has now completely shifted to this strategic area. "Now everything is about the Strait of Hormuz," he concluded.
