TIA: 7.25 million passengers flew in 2023, about 44% in Italy; Wizz Air

Tirana International Airport (TIA) has reported passenger data for 2023. According to TIA, 7,257,574 passengers traveled to and from Rinas in 2023, with an increase of 40% compared to the previous year, reaching a historical record level.

According to TIA, Tirana International Airport grew by 37% in terms of seat capacity, reaching a number of 4,240,461 seats from 3,089,941 in 2022, a significant increase from last year. The top 5 airlines were Wizz Air, Air Albania, Albawings, Lufthansa and Ryanair.

The largest operator was Wizz Air, which reached 59% of the market, handling a number of 4,289,960 passengers in 2023.

In 2023, Tirana International Airport welcomed new airlines such as Jazeera and Ryanair and introduced destinations such as Naples, Brindisi, Trieste, Lamezia Terme, Palermo, Thessaloniki, Comiso, Edinburgh, Manchester, Bucharest, Kuwait, Dammam, Stockholm Arlanda, Dusseldorf Weeze , Prague, Warsaw Modlin and Rome Ciampino.

Increase in the number of passengers by 40%:  In fiscal year 2023, Tirana International Airport has welcomed 40% more passengers, reaching a figure of 7,257,574 passengers. This remarkable growth underscores the essential role the airport plays in facilitating travel and providing connections between destinations. 

Expanded Seat Capacity and Air Traffic Movement:  The commitment to infrastructure development is evident through the large increase in seat capacity, which increased by 67% in December 2023 compared to December 2022, reaching 429,708 seats. Also, Air Traffic Movement (ATM) has had a 32% increase from 2022, with 25,354 flight cycles, which shows attraction for the airport from airlines and passengers.

Tirana International Airport grew by 37% in terms of capacity, bringing the total number of seats to 4,240,461 from 3,089,941 in 2022, an impressive increase from the year before. 2. Germany (13%): Serving nearly one million passengers, Germany maintained a significant presence, reflecting the strong demand for travel between Tirana and major German cities.

3. UK (8%): ​​Tirana International Airport facilitated seamless travel for over half a million passengers to and from the United Kingdom, underscoring the importance of this market.

4. Turkey (6%), Greece (4%) and beyond: Other key markets, including Turkey and Greece, contributed significantly to the airport's success, highlighting its role in driving connections beyond Western Europe.

London claims the leading position among the main destinations from Tirana International Airport, commanding an impressive share of 8% of total destinations. This popular city stands as the ultimate choice for travelers, offering unmatched connectivity and global accessibility. Next are Milan, Rome and Bergamo, each contributing significantly with a share of 5%, while Pisa completes the top five destinations with a notable share of 4%. Milan - Leading the Way: The airport most frequented by passengers from Tirana is Milan, accounting for the highest share of YTD passengers in 2023, with 390,863 individuals choosing this Italian gateway.

Luton, Bergamo, Fiumicino and Pisa:  Following closely behind are Luton, Bergamo, Fiumicino and Pisa, each contributing significantly to the airport's success in connecting travelers to their desired destinations.
