Former prosecutor Eugen Beci analyzed the McGonigal case and the admission of guilt by the former senior FBI official for the Albanian file in Washington.
Invited to the show "The Unexposed" on MCN TV, Beci said that the decision of the court in Washington constitutes a test for the Albanian authorities who can immediately start an investigation for those charges that McGonigal has accepted, including several meetings with the prime minister Rama.
Beci said that SPAK does not need to investigate the charges that McGonigal once accepted in the US, but should investigate whether there is a criminal case against people related to McGonigal in Albania, including Prime Minister Rama.
" As for the procedure, we are at the stage where Albania must see the criminal fact. The criminal part, which is included in the Criminal Code of Albania, for criminal facts committed by Albanians in foreign countries, where corruption is included, is not related to the decisions of foreign countries, so the Albanian authorities had the duty to carry out an investigation.
The case is not over. We have a case with two accomplices and only one is judged. One is convicted, but the decision that he declared guilty is evidence for the other accomplices, there is no need to investigate these facts anymore.
The decision taken for McGonigal is evidence carried out by an independent judiciary, it can be obtained legally, it comes through the official channel, it goes to the Prosecutor's Office, to SPAK and all of them are evidence that do not need further investigation. It is automatically defined test, no need to test. Everything talked about in that decision is proven.
The person related to the situation will be seen to be responsible. All actions are of illegal influence.
The Albanian authorities, regardless of the request of a representative of the opposition, should start an investigation to prove the criminal fact, whether we are exercising illegal influence and corruption.
If a complaint has been brought by Gazment Bardhi, SPAK can register a criminal case, but it does not make it public until a person is charged ," said Beci, among other things.
