Journalist Klodiana Lala spoke about the serious incident that happened yesterday in the north of Kosovo, where the police officer, Afrim Bunjaku, was killed.
Lala says that everything started at 2:34 on September 24, where there was a continuous exchange of fire between the Kosovo police forces and members of the Serbian criminal group.
Klodiana Lala: The genesis of the event is at 02:34 on Sunday, at the small intersection of Banjska, there were two trucks without license plates and they did not allow entrances and exits. Upon seeing this situation, the police came closer. Afrim Bunjaku was a sergeant. Seeing the situation that could be similar to what happened earlier, the police forces have approached the monastery. They were found facing a barrage of guns and grenades, he was seriously injured and later pronounced dead at the hospital. Being unprepared to face such an attack, the police withdrew and a few minutes later the Special Forces went to the scene, precisely this time difference was used by the members of the terrorist group, it is thought that they participated in previous fights.
It is said that there are weapons of the Kosovo police, from the year 2021. The Special Forces surrounded the monastery, there were 50 pilgrims inside, people moving to different monasteries. When the monastery was surrounded, the police used tear gas and there was an exchange of fire between the police and the armed group. Then the entire perimeter of the monastery was surrounded during the clash. I asked the Minister of the Interior and there is no correct answer about the operation, it is thought that there may be others killed, but officially there are 3 killed. After some of the members were killed, others are missing, only 3 bodies are in the morgue. 6 others are being treated in a hospital in Novi Pazar and the Minister of the Interior has called for them to surrender.
The journalist points out that the control operation is still ongoing and that the entire village is considered a crime scene.
- Did the Special Forces have resistance to enter the monastery?
Klodiana Lala: There was an exchange of fire all the time, but the main goal was to minimize the loss of human lives because, as I told you, there were about 50 pilgrims inside the monastery and they were moved today at noon by a bus to leave because the village is considered it's all a scene and it's stretching out of control. And in these moments that I have spoken with one of the officials of the Kosovo police, this action is continuing and it is considered quite dangerous and special for the way it is developing, because it is an event that stretches from the entrance of the village to the border with Kosovo .
