The population census seems to have alarmed Turkey. Although the data is collected for our country, it seems that neighbors and other countries are watching when such a process takes place. The decline of the Muslim population has not escaped the Turkish media either, who write that for the first time in 200 years, Muslims are no longer the majority. "Turkiye Today" has made an article, where it sees this phenomenon with concern. According to her, atheists and orthodox are growing significantly in Albania.
The article
The population census for the year 2023 in Albania has shown a significant demographic change that marks a historical transformation in the nation's religious scene. Muslims are no longer the majority of the population, for the first time in more than 200 years.
The number of Muslims fell to 45.7% based on the latest census figures. This is a clear departure from years past when Muslims were often in the majority. On the other hand, the non-religious population has grown somewhat steadily, reaching 23.4%. Furthermore, the Orthodox Christian community has expanded and now constitutes twenty percent of the total population.

The census also revealed a notable 15% decline in the population over the past ten years. From 2.8 million in 2011, the current total population is 2.4 million, and experts blame immigration, declining birth rates and changes in religious and ethnic demographics.
These demographic changes reflect more general patterns and changes within Albanian society. Especially among young individuals seeking better opportunities elsewhere, immigration has had a major impact on population numbers. A similar trend in many European countries, the decrease in births has also helped to reduce the population.
Furthermore, changing views towards religion and identity in Albania is the growth of the non-religious population and the expansion of the Orthodox Christian group. These changes can affect the social and cultural fabric of the nation in the long run. / Pamphlet
