Ben Blushi returns to where he was attacked in 2016, here is the message for citizens...
Former MP, journalist and writer Ben Blushi will return to Elbasan tomorrow to promote his latest novel, "I am Muslim." But beyond the literary invitation, the message he has published on social networks has aroused interest, as it brings to attention not only his connection with the city, but also the strong clashes he had there years ago.
Blushi recalls that in 2013 he headed the Socialist Party list in Elbasan, but emphasizes that many of the concerns he raised at that time, according to him, were confirmed over time.
" I have very beautiful memories of Elbasan, but unfortunately also bitter ones. In 2013, I headed the Socialist Party list, but since then things have changed and, unfortunately, many of my warnings have come true. Unpleasant things have happened in Elbasan. But despite this, I do not return there with any kind of resentment. I return to meet old friends, to talk about literature and the times we live in ," he says.
In the published video, Blushi also speaks openly about the pressures that, according to him, have accompanied his public meetings in the past, calling on citizens not to be influenced by anyone.
" I really hope that no one is afraid to come to my meetings, even though I know that there are always small intimidations in these cases. Don't listen to those who tell you 'don't go to a meeting with Ben Blushi'. Let's talk about literature, about my novel 'I am Muslim', which has caused a lot of debate, but of course also about the events that are happening in Albania today. Because of course it is time to talk and it is time to talk with good friends ," he declares.
The writer connects tomorrow's meeting not only with his new book, but also with the need for dialogue and discussion at a time that, according to him, requires this more than ever.
" I am convinced that they will come to the meeting tomorrow at six o'clock at the Skampa Hotel. I welcome you all without any fear, without any worries. The meeting is open, there is no invitation, there is no obstacle. Tomorrow at six o'clock at the Skampa Hotel ," says Blushi.
But the most significant part of the message is where he goes back in time and remembers the period when his activities in Elbasan were accompanied by tensions and opposition.
" The people who once prevented us from meeting are no more. Those who tore up my books in Elbasan are no more. Bookstores are no longer afraid to sell my books and I believe that we will have a very beautiful meeting, and of course a literary, literary and friendly meeting ," he says.
Blushi's words bring to mind an incident in 2016, when he faced one of the most tense moments of his political career. During a Socialist Party meeting in Elbasan, he was booed and verbally attacked by people present in the hall. According to testimonies at the time, one person approached him threateningly, while the intervention of others prevented the situation from escalating.
After that episode, Blushi himself declared that " a trial not only against a man, but also against his books " had taken place in the hall.
Tomorrow, nearly a decade later, he returns to the same city, not for a political debate, but to present his latest novel.
