Tragic accident balance, safety expert: Albanian roads are scary

Road accidents continue to remain one of the most worrying problems in Albania, with serious consequences for lives lost and people left with permanent consequences.

Regarding this situation, road safety expert Gëzim Hoxha analyzed the main causes that influence the increase in accidents and the responsibility of institutions. According to the expert, the problem is related to several factors that intertwine with each other, starting from the training of drivers, the technical condition of vehicles and the road infrastructure.

" Albanian roads are actually scary. There are many accidents, there are many losses of human lives, but there are also people who remain crippled and permanently disabled. Albanian society has been severely damaged by road accidents. The causes are numerous, starting from the training of vehicle drivers, the technical condition of the vehicles and the road signage that still leaves much to be desired ," he told Ora News.

Hoxha also focused on the danger of driving while tired or drowsy, especially during the summer season, when many drivers travel after long hours spent at beaches or entertainment venues. According to him, a moment of distraction at the wheel can have fatal consequences.

"A vehicle moving at 80 kilometers per hour travels 22.22 meters in one second. If you close your eyes for a second because you are sleepy, the car has advanced over 22 meters without control. This is why driving while tired is a very big risk ," said Hoxha.

The expert also raised concerns about the technical condition of vehicles in circulation, linking this problem to the way controls and responsible institutions function.
