The British tabloid DailyMail writes that Albanian teenagers are illegally entering the United Kingdom and then joining drug gangs in order to be sent to prison and seek asylum.
Desperate young people, according to the British media, are ending up in some cafes that are used as a cover for illegal activities by gangs like the Hellbanianz and are soon recruited to work on cannabis farms or to distribute drugs on British properties.
Closely watched by the gangs, the teenagers work to pay off their debt to the people who helped them enter the country and send money home.
If caught by the police, the men accept jail time as mafia lawyers use an excuse to block deportation to Albania by claiming they were victims of modern slavery, a gang expert has claimed.
The DailyMail writes that Albanians make up the largest percentage of people entering the United Kingdom, with 12,561 people entering the UK last year alone, traveling by small boats.
Albanian gangs have reportedly seized control of the UK cocaine economy over the past 20 years after forging an alliance with Latin American drug cartels.
Among them, the Hellbanianz gang based on the Gascoigne estate in Barking, east London, is considered an influential group.
