The significant drop in temperatures over the past few hours has returned snowfall to several areas of the country, mainly in mountainous territories, creating an unusual situation for the spring season.
Snowfall has been recorded in Dajti Mountain, Gjinar, Fushë-Studë, as well as in some areas of the Dibra region, where snow has fallen to about 700 meters above sea level, including villages near Peshkopia. According to reports from the field, temperatures have not dropped below zero and so far no damage to fruit trees has been reported, as some of the crops are still in the early stages of flowering.
At the same time, heavy snowfall during the night has also affected the Elbasan region, covering dozens of villages in the municipalities of Elbasan, Librazhd, Gramsh and Përrenjas. The thickness of the snow ranges from 15 to 25 centimeters, while the precipitation began around 20:30 and continued until after midnight.
The most affected areas are the Shebenik National Park, Fushë Studeni and several villages above 800 meters in Librazhd, such as Orenja, Qarrishta, Dragostunja, Polisia, Babja, Dardha and Xhyra. However, this morning is without precipitation and no traffic problems are reported, while rural roads remain passable.
Situation by area:
Heavy snowfall continues in the Llogara area. Authorities recommend using the tunnel as an alternative, while drivers using the old road should be equipped with snow chains. A police patrol has been sent to the field to monitor the situation and ensure safety.
Snow has fallen up to 700 meters above sea level, including in the villages surrounding the city. So far, no damage to agriculture has been reported.
The rainfall was intense overnight, with up to 25 cm in the mountainous areas. Currently, the roads are passable and the situation is under monitoring.
At altitudes above 300 meters, snow has blanketed mountainous areas and villages. Rural roads have become impassable, while farmers face the risk of damage to thriving crops.
On the Dedaj-Bogë, Dedaj-Razëm and Bogë-Theth axes, there was heavy rainfall throughout the night. In Qafë Thore, the snow depth exceeded 40 centimeters, while efforts were made to keep the roads open.
Heavy snowfall has reached up to 20 cm in some areas. Qafshtama Park is covered in snow, while the maximum temperature has reached only 3°C.
Snowfall has been recorded at altitudes of 1100–1200 meters. In some axes such as Qafë Thanë and Qukës-Qafë Plloçë, the snow was dense during the night, but has started to melt due to milder temperatures during the day.
Despite the intensity of the rainfall in some areas, no major traffic problems have been reported so far. Authorities continue monitoring and call on drivers to exercise increased caution, especially in mountainous areas.
On the other hand, experts warn that low temperatures could negatively affect agriculture, especially for flowering crops. However, snowfall is expected to have a positive impact on water reserves, helping supply during the summer months./ Pamphlet
