National Council without surprises, DP leadership remains unchanged; here are
Flamur Noka and Sali Berisha

Berisha consolidates the loyal team at the head of the DP...

Two months after being re-elected unopposed as head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha is ready to seal the new leadership team. But instead of the promised renewal, everything leads to one conclusion: the dome remains almost the same.

Tomorrow's National Council meeting is expected to formalize the new leadership structure of the DP, with most key figures expected to be reconfirmed in the most important positions.

The position of Secretary General is in the spotlight. Flamur Noka is expected to run for a second term as the number two of the Democratic Party. The statute requires him to have a rival, but just a few hours before the vote, no one officially knows who the candidate facing him will be.

This means that members of the National Council will vote without having time to familiarize themselves with the alternatives, without public debate, and without any internal campaigning.

No major surprises are expected in the other positions either. Gazment Bardhi will continue to lead the parliamentary group, while Agron Gjekmarkaj remains the deputy speaker of the Assembly. According to the DP statute, both automatically receive the status of deputy speaker of the party.

Changes are expected only in the expansion of the list of vice-chairs. Luçiano Boçi is running for another term, while Belind Këlliçi, Klevis Balliu and Erisa Bajaziti are also expected to enter the race, the latter a name coming from the democratic diaspora. On the other hand, Oerd Bylykbashi will not run for the position of vice-chair.
Movements are also expected in the secretariat. Ivi Kaso has publicly announced that he is leaving the position of Secretary for Legal and Electoral Affairs, a function he has held for more than a decade and where he was the main figure of the DP in relations with the CEC and electoral processes. A new name is expected to be promoted in his place.
But what has sparked debate within the Democratic Party are not the names, but the way the process is being developed.

As happened with the surprise election of Julia Emiri as head of the National Council, the candidates for the most important positions are being kept secret until the moment of voting.

This has brought a strong reaction from former MP Myslim Murrizi. He demands that the names be made public a few days before the meeting, so that members of the National Council have the opportunity to get to know the candidates and campaign within the party themselves.

"I don't know why everything is kept secret until the last minute. Even the lists of MPs are submitted secretly. What harm would it do for the candidates to campaign for three days?" declared Murrizi.

He also sent a direct message to Sali Berisha, accusing him of promoting people without electoral support, while overshadowing figures who, according to him, have votes.

"You don't want the winning DP if you hate people who have votes and promote people who don't have a single vote ," Murrizi said.

In the end, the question remains the same: is Berisha building a new Democratic Party, or is he simply reconfirming the old guard with a few new names in secondary roles?
