While the Middle East burned, Ivanka Trump became a tourist in Sazan and Albania became the property of American luxury...
At the height of the most dangerous international crisis of the decade, an orchestrated conflict between Israel and Iran, where the US intervenes with bunker-busters and Iran launches missiles with Qatar's "prior approval", the daughter of the US president, Ivanka Trump, chose to be somewhere else: in Vlora, having lunch with Jared Kushner in one of the quietest bays in the Mediterranean and going on a Jeep safari on Sazan Island, where they are now expected to invest over a billion dollars for a luxury resort.
For a man who comes from the blood of a president who just signed the most shameful improvised peace of modern times, this moment is much more than a coincidence. While Trump was accusing Israel of “off-script” bombings and ordering peace with CAPS LOCK, his daughter was visiting an island that will probably, for many Albanians, remain a symbol of white-visa occupation.
Ivanka called her project in Sazan “extraordinary,” while Jared described it as their “treasure.” A place that has been closed for decades, with communist-era bunkers, with roads leading to “Devil’s Bay” and “Hell’s Throat,” is now being transformed into a luxury arena where the wealthy will do yoga on unexploded mines.
The irony is complete. While Iran and Israel calculate targets and consequences, while American diplomats calculate with corpses and electoral fields, Ivanka and Jared prepare the ground for an “ultra-luxury tourism mecca” in one of the most sensitive points of the Mediterranean. And while Tirana remains silent, Sazani becomes the clearest metaphor of Albanian diplomacy: give land, turn a blind eye, accept new names for old places.
Today Albanians call it "Trump Island". A name that neither history nor geography invented. But unfortunately, reality is writing it./ Pamphlet
