Analyst Fatos Lubonja has commented on the developments after Fredi Beleri's sentence to 2 years in prison.
Lubonja said that for him there is no doubt that his punishment is a political blow and an illegal act accompanied by the violation of any procedure. He added that such an action could not happen in a normal country.
"For me there is no doubt, this is a political blow. In a normal country, such a thing could not happen. For me, the question is where does this courage come from to act like this, when the Greek state also has some kind of authority and opportunity to do you harm. I don't know where this comes from.
Are we dealing with a bigger problem than the imprisonment of Beler that Rama will keep in prison, maybe it can be a loss of the sense of reality and he seems very powerful. Maybe it has something to do with the issue of the sea and Erdogan, but the act itself is illegal and the violation of any procedure is not discussed at all", he said in the studio of the show "Open".
The Court against Corruption and Organized Crime decided to sentence the elected mayor of Himara, Fredi Beleri, to two years in prison, accused of active corruption in the elections.
Beleri, who has always talked about his political imprisonment, repeated the same position in the Court, while accusing the Prosecutor's Office of fabricating the facts and evidence against him. The court also found Pandeli Kokavesh, Mr. Beleri's associate, guilty. His sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison was commuted to 3 years of probation, due to his health condition.
Meanwhile, Greece has reacted strongly to the sentence of Fredi Beleri. In a statement of the Greek Foreign Ministry, quoted by "Kathimerini", concern is raised about the objectivity of the judicial process.
The sentence by an Albanian court for the elected mayor of Himara puts to rest the concerns raised about the objectivity of the process," the Greek Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday, after an ethnic Greek was sentenced to two years in prison for vote buying.
The ministry said the presumption of Beler's innocence was jeopardized "due to statements and external actions defending the sentence", while the final sentence is "clearly disproportionate in relation to the scale of the alleged offence".
