The country's former president, Ilir Meta, and his ex-wife Monika Kryemadhi are accused by SPAK of corruption, money laundering, and concealment of assets, in connection with LSI lobbying in the US and the CEZ-DIA affair.
The next session of the trial on the merits against the leader of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, and his ex-wife, Monika Kryemadhi, is taking place today.
Awaiting the start of the substantive session, former President Meta held a discussion with PL MP Tedi Blushi, where he asked him about the exchange rate.
Conversation in court:
Meta: "Tedi, how much has the euro exchange rate gone after the strike of these hundreds of thousands of euros?"
Blushi : I don't know, 85?
Meta : Yes, there are remittances. So what do you, the opposition, do?
Blushi : We protest in the square.
Meanwhile, Monika Kryemadhi says: What did Altin Dumani do, that those 150 million euros that were seized now were there?
Present at the session are two prosecutors, Sotir Kllapi and Arben Kraja, while the trial panel is expected.
On June 11, the Constitutional Court published the reasoning for the decision taken on April 8, in which it rejected former President Ilir Meta's request to repeal the security measure "prison arrest".
According to the decision, five out of eight Constitutional Court judges voted against the request of the Freedom Party leader, leaving the security measure against him in force.
Meanwhile, judges Marjana Semini and Marsida Xhaferllari expressed their support for accepting the request, while judge Sonila Bejtja presented a separate opinion, also in favor of Meta's claims.
In its reasoning, the Constitutional Court assesses that the judicial authorities have sufficient facts and data to support the reasonable suspicion that Meta may have committed the criminal offenses for which he is being investigated. For this reason, the court found no constitutional violation in the decisions that upheld the prison sentence.
Meta and Kryemadhi were taken under investigation by SPAK in October 2024, when security measures were also imposed on them.
