The National Food Authority (AKU) has reacted after the poisoning of several trainees at the Safety Academy in Sauk, announcing that it has immediately initiated verifications following information received through inter-institutional communication with the Academy.
According to the AKU, the first inspections were carried out at the SORI-AL entity, which provides catering services for the Security Academy in Sauk and the "Skënderbej" Garrison at the Armed Forces Academy.
The inspection at the Security Academy found that the activity was carried out in appropriate hygienic-sanitary conditions and with the necessary documentation. Inspectors took 14 food samples, seven from the lunch meal and seven from the dinner meal of June 24, 2026, which were sent for microbiological analysis to the Institute of Food Safety and Veterinary Medicine (ISUV).
Following the investigation, the AKU also inspected the "Skënderbej" Garrison, where food was processed. There, too, adequate hygienic and sanitary conditions and proper documentation were found. During the inspection, 14 more samples of stored food were taken, as well as five environmental swabs from the equipment and work areas for laboratory analysis.
As a precautionary measure, the NFA ordered the cessation of activity in the premises of the "Skënderbej" Garrison until the results of the laboratory tests are published.
Representatives of the Tirana Local Health Care Unit, the State Health Inspectorate and the Tirana Local Police Directorate also participated in the checks carried out.
The National Food Authority announces that it will continue to follow up on the case and will take the necessary measures to guarantee food safety.
