New details have been learned about the tragic accident in Këlcyra, where, fleeing from the police, a clandestine vehicle left the road and as a result the Albanian driver Edison Bregaj and 7 illegal immigrants he was transporting lost their lives.
Three more victims, who were Pakistani, have already been identified, while work is being done to identify the others.
Meanwhile, after the event, two people were arrested, who are suspected to be part of the line of trafficking of illegal immigrants from third countries. We remind you that all the people in the car were men, while the vehicle was driven by Edison Bregaj.
A rented "Benz" type vehicle, with which Bregaj was transporting 7 clandestines, ended up in the bed of the Vjosë river, where as a result all the people who were in it lost their lives.
The vehicle was spotted by a police patrol, which called on him to stop, but Bregaj refused to obey the police order by increasing the speed.
The operatives started chasing him, but then he was lost from their sight. After many checks, it was verified around 04:00 that the 'Benz' had ended up on the Vjo river bed.
The driver of the vehicle is reported to have been traveling at over 200 km/h, causing him to lose control and "fly" about 300 meters in the air from the road towards the river.
The high speed of the vehicle is also confirmed by the fact that before the fatal moment, the 'Benz' driven by an Edison Brengaj, did not collide with the metal curb of the road, but ended up on the river bed.
