The immigrant centers in Shengjin e Gjadër will not open on August 1, 2024, despite the promise that Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made during her visit on June 5.
Euronews Albania has first turned to Mr. Andrea Arnaldo, the advisor of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, to ask him for an official answer if the centers in Gjadër and Shengjin will be functional on August 1.
Arnaldo has addressed us to the Italian Embassy in Albania as the responsible institution, to get an answer on when the Shengjin center, which has been completed, and the Gjadri center will be functional.
In its response, the Embassy has stated that on August 1 the centers will not be functional. This with the justification that the heat wave has made it impossible to continue the works. It has also been announced that the Italian Embassy will organize a visit to Shengjin and Gjadër tomorrow, to see what point the works have reached.
"Due to the heat wave during the summer, it has been decided to stop the construction work in Gjadër during the hours during the day, to maintain the care of the workers. This may have extended the time, but efforts are being made to open the centers as soon as possible", says the response of the Italian Embassy.
After another telephone communication with the Italian Embassy in Tirana, where they were asked by Euronews Albania to determine the date when these centers will be opened, the answer was 'within a few weeks', without specifying the period when these centers will be effective . , it was said in the response of the Italian Embassy.
