Albanians from the Diaspora also joined the 51st anti-government protest, taking part in the rally held in Tirana. They demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
A citizen, who came from London, said he had decided to participate in the protest to demand change in the country, while accusing the political class of working only for personal interests.
"I am in this protest to make this country happen. This country was not made because those who have led us are only out to steal, they don't think about the people. This country must be made so that the youth don't leave like we left," he said.
Activist Emiljando Kita also spoke from Skanderbeg Square, stating that the protesters represent citizens who work every day, but who do not receive the services they deserve from the government.
"The protesters are those who work from morning to night for Rama to receive his salary and are here for him to serve them, while Rama serves crime and the oligarchy. Employees are in miserable conditions with miserable salaries, pensioners are unable to postpone the month, agriculture, livestock and industry are in collapse. This protest is hope that things can change," he said.
According to Kita, the protesters demand that protected areas not be concreted, that the country be governed by people with integrity, and that Parliament not be represented by individuals linked to crime or, as he put it, "illiterates."
An elderly man also spoke at the protest, responding to Prime Minister Edi Rama's statements, as the latter described the protesters as "swarms".
"We are the eagles, the crows and ravens are Edi Rama and those who follow him. I come to the protest to support the wonderful youth who are also teaching Europe," he said.
He further raised concerns about emigration and the depopulation of the country, stating that: "The government has seized all wealth and today seeks to exterminate the people and bring in slaves from Asia and Africa."
