SPAK has rejected the request of Plaurent Dervishaj and his defense attorneys to exclude the trial panel from the process.
"You did not take into account the evidence we requested to be collected, you do not guarantee impartiality, we do not understand your haste," the lawyers said.
The Special Prosecution Office has requested life imprisonment for Dervishaj in connection with the assassination attempt on former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja and Aleksandër Laho, known as "Rrumi", an event in which driver Andi Maloku lost his life.
"We have made 800 requests and they are not taking them into account," Dervishaj told the jury.
The court decided to postpone the hearing until May 29, when the defense's conclusions are expected to be presented.
Meanwhile, for Julian Meçaj, who is being tried in the same case, SPAK has requested a sentence of 35 years in prison.
Dervishaj and Meçaj are accused of the assassination attempt that occurred at the Shkozet overpass on November 1, 2019, where one person was killed and two others were injured.
Regarding the assassination attempt on former prosecutor Arjan Ndoja, which occurred seven years ago, special prosecutor Andand Xholi claims that Plaurent Dervishaj, considered part of the Durrës gang, collaborated not only with Julian Meçaj, but also with other individuals such as Bledar Polovina, Amar Shkëmbi (alias Dritan), Ramazan Rraja, Endrit Sinani, Genti Nderjaku, Bashkim Haxhija and Julian Pjetri. The latter are facing a separate trial.
Both defendants were arrested in Dubai and extradited to Albania to face justice in August 2024. According to SPAK, Dervishaj is considered the organizer of the assassination, while Meçaj is one of the people who fired a gun at the vehicle in which Ndoja was traveling.
According to investigations, the assassination attempt on former prosecutor Ndoja, now a member of parliament for the Democratic Party, was uncovered through the transcription of communications on the encrypted SKY/ECC application, widely used by organized crime groups in Albania.
The incident occurred on November 1, 2019, when Arjan Ndoja and his driver were traveling together with Aleksandër Laho, a well-known name in the criminal world, wanted and known by the nickname "Rrumi".
In testimony given before the court two weeks ago, Ndoja denied having had previous contact with Aleksandër Laho, stating that he only knew his brother and that being in the same vehicle with him on the day of the assassination was coincidental.
