The May 11 elections are approaching as the political situation has heated up quite a bit, initially with the arrest of Mayor Erion Veliaj and then the public statements of Prime Minister Edi Rama and former Prime Minister Sali Berisha against SPAK.
The Special Prosecution Office has established a structure to investigate electoral crime and today announced the strategy, just a few hours after the Prime Minister's statement, which criticized the campaign surveillance initiative.
While talking about these topics, journalist Ferdinand Dervishi stated in the "Frontline" studio that since 1996, when Berisha committed the electoral massacre, elections in Albania have always been accompanied by accusations of theft and there have been no free elections.
For him, SPAK is not controlled by Rama, while he underlined that the prime minister is scared by this surveillance, as he seeks to win these elections even with a 'diabolical alliance'.
"What is Rama afraid of. Don't be bugged like in Durrës? What is he afraid of? These people, since 1996 when Berisha took the elections as he did, winning in Skrapar as well, have turned the elections around with accusations of theft. Rama is going to the elections like a king without soldiers and now the queen has just been taken. The perception has been created that he is leading a gang of thieves. His only problem is covering up the holes in his back. He tells SPAK not to go into the field to see what he is doing, maybe he has plans like he did in 2013 when he said "alliance with the devil" to win and I believe he is in the same position, to take it again. Why did SPAK do this immediately after Rama's statement. SPAK is not under Rama, he does not control it and he responded, in kind", he said.
Lawyer Romeo Kara believes that SPAK has now brought the old politics to its knees, while Rama's statements about surveillance and electoral crime against SPAK are more of a message to his followers that they are being and will be monitored, so they should be careful.
"The people who have SPAK under control neither speak nor attack SPAK. He told his people to be careful that they will be wiretapped. Those who he cannot control, he is telling them that I am facing the institution of justice and that I do not ask too many questions, I have nothing to do. So SPAK according to the criminal procedure has the right to wiretap and fortunately we have this procedure. So they are facing fear and will be under wiretapped. They have been and are, and even will be. I read it as a multiple message. SPAK will continue, it has stood on its own feet and the old politics is on its knees. Whoever puts pressure on SPAK does not make declarations, but it is a message to be careful. We have never had free elections since 1996. If we get even a little closer to free elections, it will be a great victory, with the help of the prosecution structure," lawyer Kara told Report TV.
Former police chief Shemsi Prençi said that SPAK and prosecutors are heroes who should be supported, even for investigations into electoral crime. He explained that Prime Minister Rama is in trouble because his only option is vote buying and the Prosecution is monitoring him.
"SPAK and the prosecutors are the heroes of peace and our children. I will continue with my consistency for SPAK, where we see the future for us and our children, because the others are immersed. They each have 10 villas and wealth, but I will not continue with the list because SPAK will read them in a few days. Think that there is such a brave prosecutor that there is a prosecutor who can put the handcuffs on the mayor Erion Veliaj without having evidence. They are heroes. That is why I say they are heroes, GJKKO, SPAK and BKH. That the budget is stolen and used as a resort. Rama is in trouble, because they have quarrels like in Dibër and Kukës. Now Tirana is worse, you will hear very soon that some political leaders in Tirana will be dismissed. Rama has surpassed Enver with hostile groups within the party. Veliaj's arrest politically damages Rama. The Prime Minister has only vote buying left. Balkan phenomenon. "Even in 2021, votes were bought and mainly LSI and DP were removed, with a few votes. Now most of those who bought votes are under indictment or in prison," Prençi explained.
Poli Hoxha says that the structure of the election investigation by SPAK is historic and Altin Dumani's biggest challenge.
"The SPAK structure for investigating electoral crimes is historic. Democracy has the principle of one person, one vote. It has been preparing for 6 months with the help of the US and the EU. The biggest challenge for Duman and that group there. This structure has been hit and will be hit. But they have been warned currently, even any interference with the structure. This structure has many institutions, it is not only the Prosecutor's Office that will be monitoring", said the journalist.
PL leadership member Faik Basha believes that in addition to corruption, the majority wants to steal the next elections, which is why it is also attacking SPAK.
"Rama will have a hard time getting past the 50 MPs mark, not 71. Rama has trained his patronage agents like that, he has trained them with money, he uses the whole machinery. They are used to election theft and are afraid of being caught by SPAK. It is obvious that he is mistaken, I think Rama has mistaken. He is trying to lure his own people into a trap. Let SPAK eavesdrop and monitor, I have no problem with that either. We are in favor of justice. 4 billion euros per year is the annual damage from the budget. Rama has lost his most important man, George Soros, who supported him, now he is left alone, he has lost his way", stressed Basha.
